Indigenous Peoples Heritage Mart
On Saturday, December 3, 2022, I was invited by the South Gate Museum and Art Gallery to facilitate a watercolor workshop during their Indigenous Peoples Heritage Celebration Mart. Participants chose from a variety of native conscious designs while also learning of their ancestral significance as they filled them with their own colorful expressions.
Everyone who came was incredibly sweet and ready to depart from the worries of the day by painting. The museum has a historical and cozy atmosphere complete with a room dissecting the origins of the town. I got to learn and see anecdotes about the place I grew up in that made me see it in a new light. The team is keen on ushering in a new era of arts and culture into this sleepy city and I’m stoked to see where it goes. I was honored to bring in a little bit of inspiration into the youth who came by.
A big thank you to the SG museum staff for having me!
