Semillitas Learning Community’s Día de los Muertos
Mesoamerican ball games, danzantes and beautiful ofrenda altars were in abundance at this year’s Día de los Muertos as celebrated y Semillitas Learning Community in Compton, CA. Among the festivities were workshops on various crafts, such as papalotl paper butterfly making and my watercolor workshop. The event was hosted at the historic Domingez Rancho Adobe Museum, whose mission is to preserve and increase community awareness of early California history as it relates to the Dominguez family, homestead adobe and the Rancho San Pedro, the first Spanish land grant in California.
